Orthodontics Orthodontics (orthopedy of the jaws) is a branch of dentistry which deals with diagnosis and treatment of irregularities of teeth, jaws and face of children and adults.

The purpose is to achieve good function of the oral system and satisfactory aesthetic appearance of the patient.

Orthodontic treatment involves the use of various removable and fixed braces which have an effect on teeth by placing them into a better, desired position.
 
Dental orthodontics deals with correction of irregularities of the bite and establishing a proper function of the teeth and jaws and harmonious facial appearance by solving the problem of prominent (protruding) teeth.

The teeth and jaws, in the case of toothless patients, can be prepared for the acceptance of prosthetic substitution and implants, in order to extend their functionality and durability.
